Comments For Cans

Recent newspaper articles in the Canton Repository and Akron Beacon Journal have highlighted that more and more Ohioans are losing their jobs, and are relying on local food banks just to get by. In some of the worst economic times we've ever witnessed, the increasing strain on our food banks is obvious.

We launched our Bullseye Blog last year as a way to educate people about our justice system and how legal developments in and out of Ohio affect your rights. As a way to combine that goal with a small measure of social responsibility in more pressing matters, I am asking for your help, and it won't cost you a thing. Simply leave a comment on this blog post or any other post as you browse through the site. When the number of comments reaches 500, Nicodemo and Wilson will make a $500 donation to the Akron-Canton Regional Food Bank.

We're calling this program "Comments For Cans." So leave a comment, and spread the word around in the Internet community. And I invite other bloggers to outright steal this idea if you think it's worthy of copying. In fact, we'd be honored if you did.

After all, little hinges can open big doors. Let the comments begin..

Brian-
Great idea! We just did a drive in January for the Dayton area Foodbank at our office. Great participation. You are RIGHT times are vey tough out there...Everyone needs to make an effort to help those less fortunate. If it's okay, can I use your comment/contribution idea on my Ohio Family Law Blog?

Great way to accomplish 2 goals - get folks to check-out your blog and donate to support a worthy cause. I'm married to a gentleman on the other side of the bar (across the river in WV though); and I still found your blog to be informative (also worked defense litigation for 20+ years - didn't make me like the insurance "MAN" any better).

Best of luck on your food drive.

Thank you for your support. The Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank experienced an unprecedented increase in food distribution of 25% last year to a record level of 16 million pounds. We provided over 11.5 million meals locally. We anticipate increased demand this year as more and more people are coming to local food pantries and hot meal sites for the first time ever. We need and appreciate the support of efforts like this from our local communities.

Brian:

There's lots of people who say that lawyers are only "in it for the money."

You are standing out because you care.

Congratulations... I hope that others rip off your idea to the better good of the whole!

The Twisted Sisters Bookclub of Raleigh applauds your efforts in this time of great need. Many of us are former Ohioans and watch sadly as Ohio suffers greatly in this economic downfall. Brighter days are in the future because people like you are shining a light instead of blaming the darkness.

This is a nice thing to do and I like the creativity of it.

good for you on helping out the community

Brian said...

Instead of trying to respond individually to each person who was kind enough to leave a comment, just wanted to give a HUGE THANK YOU to all commenters. The response has been great and I am encouraged that others might try to duplicate this program.
Perhaps 500 comments is unrealistic, but not having done anything like this before I had nothing to go by and no idea what to expect.

If we reach 100 comments that will be an achievement and N & W will send the $500 anyway! Over halfway there...
